Steve's 1957 Volkswagen
Cabriolet Project
This VW convertible
has just arrived for a partial restoration. This project began about 30
years ago, and unfortunately some rare pieces have been lost.
We have been granted
the challenge of locating them, and completing this "ultimate jigsaw puzzle".
We hope you enjoy following along!

The dust is flying
this week! Convertible top frame is carefully installed in order to fit the wood
bows.
Engine has suffered
from years of neglect, we have a lot of cleaning to do! A Small part
left inside the engine case has damaged the camshaft gear. Fortunately,
the case itself was not damaged, and other parts look promising. Rims are
being sandblasted and painted also. Lights, wiring, and components are
installed, in addition to bumpers and trim. Chrome on black color combination
always looks sharp!

Below: Many of the
rare pieces are being acquired for this beauty; We've obtained a set of side
windows, a rear window is in the works, mirror is also being restored,
Meanwhile, other assembly pieces begin to arrive. such as the wiring harness,
and wood kit for the convertible top. More to come!

Assembly to begin!
Below: After rubbing and
buffing the paint, we are now ready to begin assembly. New parts are
starting to arrive, and
despite lacking a
few rare pieces, this Cabriolet should go back together smoothly.

Paint Day!
Paint and body
facelift is now complete. We wet-sanded between clear coat sessions for a deep,
rich finish.
(Bottom) We received
these beautiful N.O.S. tail lights from Steve's spare parts collection.
Coming soon: more
challenges in assembly!

(Below): Steve's 'vert
has been disassembled, and the convertible support rails were installed.
Body is being
prepared for paint and will be shot with PPG Deltron in the original L41 Black.
Stay tuned!

(below): After a
quick clean-up to remove years of debris, we set the convertible top frame in
place.

(below) Convertible
support rails are missing, and will have to be replaced for proper structural
integrity.

our own 1957 Cabriolet, for comparison.
